Hey Mike, great list. Are you gonna expand that?
(Also, what was the "split". Sorry if it seems like a silly question, but I'm not too big on Indy history so....)?

(Also, what was the "split". Sorry if it seems like a silly question, but I'm not too big on Indy history so....)? The "Split" was a period from 1996-2008 when there were two competing open-wheel racing series in North America: the Indy Racing League(IRL) and CART/ChampCar; for whatever reasons there were, Tony George believed that Indycar racing was, (a)drifitng away from its' American roots (and the emphasis on ovals, American drivers, etc.) and (b)becoming more akin to Formula 1 w/its' emphasis on road & street course racing. He also felt that the Indy 500, Indycar's signature race, was losing some of its' luster as a result of the two items above, so around 94' IIRC, he announced his intent to form the IRL, centered around the 500. Naturally, most everyone in CART thought he was full of it (use your imagination as to what Mr. George was full of) and went about their merry way...well, come 96', the Split begins and the sport would begin its' downward spiral to the level its' at present. And you wonder why Tony George is one of the most despised men in American motorsports at present; the Split is the reason why.

No problem, Steve; IndyCar's fallen so far 'cause of the Split that once in a while, people do wonder what's wrong...
