Inspired by an idea by Theodore Gladstone over at AlternateHistory.com, this TL starts with a POD in April 1896. The TL really starts off, however, with a displaced tornado outbreak, what would have been the May 27th outbreak in our world, occurring right around the (slightly delayed) Republican Convention. One particularly damaging tornado devastates a large portion of the city of St. Louis, killing over 280 people, including several Republican Presidential candidates. William McKinley, the original winner IOTL, wasn't harmed, but hadn't been able to attend most of the convention due to the fact he'd caught a cold the day before, and so many of the votes that went to him IOTL.....now went to Garret Hobart, whom, incidentally, just happened to be the Vice President IOTL. McKinley, however, remains a top advisor for Hobart, and as a result, the Hobart/Reed ticket wins the 1896 election, thus setting off chains of events for years to come.....
